shhh …

For the first time in a number of weeks, we don’t have any obligations today (other than picking Max up this evening). Don’t say it out loud, though, or I’m sure something will come up! Isn’t it tough when life gets so darn busy that you feel like you’re sliding out of control through the days, weeks, and months? We’ve had this syndrome lately and have been discussing ways to minimize the ‘damage’. Anyway, it is glorious to have a few hours totally for ourselves.

This weekend is a primitive quick stitch weekend over at Tanya’s group, so I stitched the Praiseworthy Stitches Tulip Pynkeep freebie using HDF and Belle Soie silks and then finish-finished it as a floss tag – my very first! I was so happy with it that I quickly finished two other pieces (Joyous by Trail Creek Farm, JCS ornament edition 2005) the same way.

All of which started a finish-finishing frenzy that has left my unfinished pile … well, pile-less. Gone. As in, nothin’ there. LOL. I can’t show all of what I did, as it’s mainly intended for gifts and exchanges. When Niek came home last night from an evening out with friends, he really didn’t know what to say about the mess. The funny thing was, I’d cleaned the house while he was gone, but you could no longer tell. LOL!

Yesterday was Max’s diploma swimming exam. He’s had quite the week of it, hasn’t he? We are all so proud of him! :D Thanks for your really great comments about him (and Rowen, of course!) in the school play.

For anyone curious about the photos, I splurged on the Picnik upgrade for my Flickr photos.

how many postal carriers does it take

to deliver my mail on the weekend?

Generally speaking, we’re lucky to receive any mail on Saturday; but today was different! The regular mail delivery saw the arrival of the Shepherd’s Bush “Scatter Sunshine” chart from Rowyn, including the cutest kiwi socks for Arden. Thank you Rowyn!!! :D

I also received my mini Moo cards (from upgrading my Flikr account) and some photo notecards that I ordered at the same time. I’ve not pictured them here, but some of you are sure to see them as correspondence from me. ;)

Later in the day a special mail delivery arrived that brought me:

  • This Odds & Ends order from Silkweaver. I’ve already started stitching on the cream linen. Not pictured are two aida solos that I bought for Max’s birthday in April. I’m so excited by these new colors!

  • This chart order from De Breibrink, a Dutch ONS with really excellent service. The Beardie charts were only 3 euro and I sort of fell in love with the one by Lisa Cowel. Anyone looking for ’something Dutch’ to stitch really should check them out – their site is available in English, French, and German as well as Dutch.

  • Another order from Annemiek’s wonderful ONS, De Handwerk Boetiek, that I can’t show you because most of the order is earmarked as gifts. This order included a couple of charts from her own design mark, The Needle’s Content. I love her designs, especially the ones with animals, which strike just the right primitive note for me. Although her sites are mostly in Dutch, you can email her for information about any products that interest you – her English is as good as mine!
  • And saving the best for last, this wonderful handmade gift from Cyberstitcher friend Mady. Annemarie and Harmien have told me of Mady’s impressive knitting skills, but I had no idea …. She knitted and felted these absolutely adorable baby slippers for Arden (in no time!). He was very pleased to model them for us, too. :) Mady, I don’t think you read my blog but if you do: “THANK YOU!!!!”felted slippers from Mady

Sorry for the stripey lighting in the photos – the sun really was out for awhile today! It was glorious!

In other news, I finally got all my stuff together to go to the framer and Niek gave me a ride. We couldn’t remember exactly where it was, nor did we have a name or phone number … but we eventually found it – and discovered he’s not open on Saturday! It was pretty funny, in a frustrating way. I’ll try again on Monday, when he is open. I also went out for polyfill to fill ornaments, but the store was out and I’ll have to wait for a new order to arrive. So not too much success with the outings today, but what a wonderful day for mail! :D

i could get used to …

I could get used to this business of stitching for home. I had a great time making the kids’ ornaments. Last night I started a table runner that I hope to have ready for the holidays … for use on our very own table! This is a “Fremme” Danish design by Edith Hansen – I just love the joy in their primitive designs. Each garland block will be filled by a fat red bird. The original design called for blue birds, but I wanted red. ;) For washability, this is stitched on aida using DMC.

I could get used to receiving fat envelopes full of silk skeins. My retail-therapy order from Vikki Clayton arrived today and here’s a look at those scrumptious Examplar Colors I was raving on about. Aren’t they utterly gorgeous? The background is a piece of perforated paper – I’ve been curious about stitching on paper and find the Tokens & Trifles prices utterly ridiculous, so I decided to order a plain ol’ white piece from Vikki.

I could get used to the idea of stitching everything Kathy Barrick Dieter has designed. I’m going to get busy with some of her stockings and the village series, though. I started A Primitive Stocking over one on 40 count using DMC but it’s just not working for me. The floss is too bulky to look nice, in my opinion. So I’m going to start it over again on 36 count using one strand of silk. I’m also going to do A Pennsylvania-Dutch Stocking (now totally kitted out, hooray!), Truth and Virtue Stocking, Noah’s Stocking (shown here with the VC silks that just came in for it), and a stunning class piece that Cathy B sent me knowing what a huge fan I am (thanks once again, Cathy!!). I’m going to hang them going up the staircase. I think they’ll look great!VC silks for Noahs Stocking

I could also get used to sleeping, if someone would give me the chance. Seems like getting a bit of decent rest one night just makes it that much harder the following night. I went back to the doctor today, and she prescribed a new inhaler to try to address my asthma issues and hopefully reinforce the antibiotics that I’m taking. I would be such a happy person if I could stop coughing. My world has shrunk down to that thought. LOL. Spin the Cat has offered to give me a short but effective series of lessons in how to sleep. As you can see, he really is an expert. I hope I can afford his bill when it comes in!

Thank you all for your comments about photo-loading. Today I’m trying Flickr. I’d actually forgotten I had an account there!

good things come to those who wait

house exchange from NickiL front

I received my amazing SBEBB house exchange from Nicki yesterday. WOW! I’m practically speechless – I couldn’t have picked out something more perfect for myself if I’d been given free rein in an LNS!

Nicki adapted a Ewe & I pattern for this gorgeous stitcher’s pocket and included the beautiful overdyed fibers and the two pieces of linen in the background – hot chocolate and acorn, from Kiwi Illusions.

This beautiful packet was mailed from Scotland with a wonderful postcard of Jedburgh Abbey. I don’t know if Nicki’s aware of our Scottish history, but my father’s family hails from there a few generations back (Cameron clan). So this exchange not only delights me as a stitcher, but has a sentimental value, too. :) Thanks so much, Nicki, for your exquisite stitching and finishing and for including goodies so much to my taste!! And for the unexpected delight of the Scottish connection. ;)

Because Photobucket  is down indefinately for scheduled maintenance, I’ve had to upload from my Flickr account – something I’ve never done before. I don’t “get” how to add multiple pictures at this time, so if you want to see the inside and back of this gorgeous creation, you’ll need to pop over to my Flickr account and check it out there. You can also see the stunning redwork exhange I received from Nicki a few months ago.  As soon as Photobucket is up & running again, I’ll edit this post to include  more pictures.

Here are the clickable pictures. Enjoy!!
