It’s very quiet here. We’re between snowstorms and Niek has taken Rowen and Nick to enjoy some sledding, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing with friends during the lull. Arden, Max and I “enjoyed” some warming vegetable soup (some of us liked it better than others, with Arden graciously offering to share his with Spin the cat):
The snow has been magnificent. The kids have loved every second, every snowflake, of it so far. Rowen has devised her own Extreme Winter Enjoyment sporting category:
And she and Nicky created some jolly snowpeople to populate our lawn:
For those more inclined to sedentary winter activities, there are plenty of places to snooze:
And for tiny people who might disappear into the snow, there are train tracks galore to set up, tear down, and reconfigure endlessly:
For those who desire to put needle to linen, there’s also plenty to do. I’ve started my big 2013 projects. There’s The Flood by Plum Street Samplers for Arden’s new-to-be bedroom:
And I’m stitching a piece of banding with bright and cheery Gerda Bengsston ‘weeds’ to use as cafe curtains in the new kitchen:
When I tire of stitching, Mother Nature greets me with astonishing beauty every time I glance out a window:
Wishing you the beauty and peace that I associate with this time of the year, as we all renew ourselves for the coming spring. May your travels be safe and may you always be accompanied by one you love.

You really have some snow! We had a touch this a.m. that didn’t stick and stopped after a couple of hours. Im getting cold just looking at that dripping daughter of yours. I would definitely eat the soup!
Pretty stitchy starts. Fun to stitch for new digs.
Happy New Year!

I don’t seem to share the kids enthusiasm for the snow – I for one have lost that loving feeling. Shoveling all that white stuff is certainly different from playing in it!
I definitely need to get together and discuss winter over a cup of good coffee and a bagel in Belfast. Let’s talk about some dates for January ok? It’s been WAY too long!

Love seeing all the snow pictures. My little one got a train set for Christmas and has been having a lovely time with it – though she is inside escaping the heat…we are off for a swim today.

Hope you all stay warm and cosy while you enjoy the winter weather. Love seeing what you’re stitching, love seeing the sleepy fur babies too!

Amazing snow scenes, as long as it stays with you and doesn’t find it’s way over here to Scotland. I look forward to seeing The Flood develop, it’s a great design.

Pictures such as these are the reasons I’ve said to you before that I want to become a kid again and have you adopt me into your family! They are having such great fun, such sweet stuff from childhood are so precious!
BTW, I read your comment on Lee’s blog re the stash hoarding. I laughed so much. I too want to dream of stitching forever, all the things I want!
Happy New Year, Barbara!

Shuddering at the idea of “between snowstorms.” I’m such a terrible driver in it, but on the other hand, it’s so beautiful. I love the photo of Rowen in her snow-queen-ness.
RE: the Prairie Schooler. I never stitch the same design twice, so I’d love to send you the chart if you’d like it (can’t think of the title offhand). If you will send your snail mail address (glennalgregory@gmail.com), I’ll pop it in the mail for you.
Your white rabbit is particularly gorgeous–and for whatever reason, it seems to me that the white ones are smarter and have better personalities, but it may just be Pink has brainwashed me. If I got another one (which Tom informs me I would not), it’d be another uppy-eared white one.

ACK!! I just about froze myself to death looking at Rowen’s frozen little face!! Glad she loves the snow… I’m more of cocoa and soup kind of girl myself
Wishing you and your family a most happy New Year, Barbara!

All I can say is “how beautiful”
