gifted!

Yesterday the postman surprised us all – especially Rigby, who looks forward to postal visits the way children do Christmas – and by the time the dust settled, I discovered the package in question was from none other than Tanya. She’d tipped me off that this was on its way, so as I opened the envelope, I told Rowen a story about Tanya going shopping and finding a perfect little girl’s dress and thinking of Rowen way over here in the Netherlands … by the time the envelope was opened, Rowen was wildly excited and quickly shed the clothes she’d been wearing to pop on her new dress. Isn’t she lovely?
And isn’t Tanya thoughtful?! After the dress was out, the envelope wasn’t empty – there was a birthday gift for me, too!
I’m now the proud owner of one of Tanya’s most recent designs, Lavender House, and I know exactly what I plan to do with it … but I’m not telling!
I stole this picture from The Sampler Girl website, as it’s so much prettier than any photo I could take. Tanya, thank you so much!!
Before I can do a thing with this wonderful design, I have to first complete the teacher’s gifts for the upcoming school celebration on Wednesday. With two teachers per child (not counting student teachers) and three kids in school … I really will have to put my foot down next year and go with gift certificates! I’m making bookmarks on perforated paper (my first time using this). The Play Ball design is a freebie from the Charles Craft website and the Lavender design is a freebie from Maryse (with some modifications).

Such a pretty dress for such a pretty little girl! How sweet of Tanya, and you have her Lavender House! I am in the process of stitching this, but I didn’t like my color choices so must begin again. Tanya’s First Ladies hang out in my living room!

Those bookmarks turned out great! I failed in my attempt to get Ben’s teacher’s done in time but liked your idea nonetheless!
Again I’m delighted that Rowen enjoys the dress – she’s just a doll and I thought of her immediately when I saw that girlie dress
Enjoy your Saturday!
Off to the ballfield for closing ceremony – I LOVE baseball but will be glad when all the schedules of the league end for the summer!!!

That is one cute little girl. Love the dress on her. Really like the new design and all the lavender in it. Congrats to both of you.

Girls can’t resist clothes
Emma loves them too (especially the pinkones when she was Rowen’s age)
Beautiful gifts Barbara !!!
Aren’t you afraid your handmade gifts won’t be appreciated by the teachers? I never made any for this reason. Plus, not everyobody appreciate cross stitching.

BTW, could you explain us the dutch school system. Why do they have 2 teachers each? I’m sure I am not the only one interested by the differences between the differents systems. thanks
Added by Barbara: Sure, Chiloe, I’m happy to discuss this. But I’ll do it in an upcoming post, so there’s enough “room”.

What a nice surprise for you in the mail! The dress is perfect for Rowen! And a lovely chart from Tanya. Enjoy stitching it.
I just read through your previous post about your visit to Munster…oh how I miss Germany! German was my major in college and I was fortunate to spend two semesters in Europe. I love those old German towns with the interesting architecture, the old churches….thanks for sharing your visit!

What a lovely surprise in the mail. Rowen looks so happy.
Is perforated paper easier to use than plastic canvas? I’m really struggling with the plastic canvas right now and had been planning to do some stuff with perforated paper for my girls teachers at Christmas time, but this current run with plastic canvas is putting me off.
Added by Barbara: The perforated paper is about a million times easier than that dratted, miserable plastic canvas! LOL!
