i’ve been a bad blogger

Filed under: kids, life stuff, stitchy gifts — Barbara @ 5:42 pm

There’s no real excuse for my on-again/off-again blogging these last couple of weeks; like anything else, I guess blogging is subject to waxing and waning cycles. I haven’t done much stitching (none, actually, since my last post) and I’ve been a bit … well, distracted … by my physical image. Ugh. Thinking of banning mirrors in the house …. But anyway, I have been reading up on what everyone’s doing and enjoying myself greatly in that respect. I’ve also been busy with the kids, and the kids have just been busy! LOL! Here are three of my wee beasties - Rowen with her newest snail, which boasts a yellow shell, Nicky hamming for the camera, and Arden enjoying a good read. ;) Max is at an age where it’s a little harder to get a picture of him - teenage years are lurking just around the corner. Sigh.

Although I don’t have a picture of Max to share, I do have one of the lovely gift he made me for Mother’s Day. The design is totally his own, and he made the “mat” that surrounds the stitching, too. :D

The mailman has become my newest best friend. I received a wonderful Act of Kindness gift from Anne, who took pity on my attempts to make my own decorative pins and sent me literally hundreds of gorgeous pins. I can’t wait to get started on some pinkeeps! I love making pinkeeps, but haven’t done so because of the impossibility of finding pretty pins in my area. Thank you, Anne!!! :D

I don’t know where the hours in the day go, but I see it is high time that I get dinner underway. I hope everyone is looking forward to a wonderful weekend! :D

  2. Your children are so very sweet looking. What a great gift to recieve on Mothers Day.

I thank you for the kind comment in regards to BBD Quaker Garden. I ended up frogging EVERYTHING except the first motif. I am stitching the letters first and then I will stitch the other Motifs.

Take care and have a great day!

  3. That is a treasure from Max. So sweet! Tell him that your pals need to see his face once in a while. : )
I love the shot of Arden too-he’s sitting up so well!

  4. OMG, I have such major body image issues. It seems the more “issues” I have the less my body actually improves. I guess working with all those young and fit gymnasts and knowing I once looked like that is really getting to me. I have absolutley no good advice to give you about this since I am in the same boat as you. Maybe with the two of us in there the BOAT WILL SINK and the problems will be gone!
What a sweat gift from Max. Very nice design. It seems he has inherited the love of Quaker designs from you. Nice color choices and I like the matting.

  5. I’ve been a bit “off” from stitching lately. I don’t dislike it or anything THAT drastic, but I’ve noticed that I’ve been more easily distracted by the TV or books or whatever else than I usually am. I figure it’ll even itself out eventually…so for now, I’ll just go with the flow.

I’m with you - mirrors aren’t always a good thing. I’m struggling to drop the excess weight I picked up with my last pregnancy - and my “baby” is 18 months old! - and I just can’t seem to make any real progress. I’m hoping that the change in season and theoretically warmer weather (we’ve had 1-2 warmer spells, but it’s staying cool/cold longer this year!) will help since I can get out and walk/jog with the kiddos. My problem is food - I love sweets and all the other very-much-bad-for-you kinds of foods. *sigh*

  6. Those are some beautiful pins! And your little Arden looks engrossed in that book!

  7. Let us not discuss weight or body portions. I have been going through a image (mirror) problem and have attempted to lose some of those unwanted rounded areas that preceed me wherever I go. Anyway, Gaby’s daughter in-law went on this new diet in the U.S. where you buy a book with a DVD and apparently walk to the DVD (I’ve not seen the book or DVD) anyway she has been on the diet for two weeks and has lost ten pounds….she walks one mile a day in eightteen minutess. I on the other hand walk two miles a day at a faster pace and in the past month have not lost ten grams of weight. Unfair to say the least! Anyway, my darling daughter remember, it’s the body within that is important and in that regard you are Mrs. Holland. Don’t worry about the dress size, instead enjoy the happiness you give to others.

  8. Don’t ban the mirrors… just stitch stuff to cover them :)

Congratulate Max for me for his wonderful Mother’s Day gift!

  9. What a wonderful gift from Max, I am impressed. You have beautiful children!!!
I too want to ban mirrors, or maybe I should have more of them around to keep me on track!
Boy that is quite the collection of pins you received, very thoughtful of Anne. Are there other “hard to find” items where you are????

  10. Wow Max - that’s an awesome, creative and beautiful gift. I love it - you must cherish it so much :) Great kid pictures and the one of Arden - so cute reading his book :)

Tanya who again hangs her head in shame for still having Arden’s toy - please tell him I’m sorry and will try and remember to wrap it next week to mail. Good grief!

  11. I’ve been a bad blogger too lately (busy doing nothing :D )

About the baby fat, as you read on my blog, I started doing something about it ;) You could just go and walk with Arden in the stroller everyday (should help) ;) I know it’s what is inside that matters but when the outside doesn’t match the inside anymore, it is time to do something about it ;) I exercise for me, to feel better about me ;) I hope you will find something that work for you. I know WW is working great for a lot of people ;)

The kiddos are just too cute  and Max gift is so touching :D

  12. My dear girl - your body image should be the words and gifts you share every day with other people. You are a pure delight and treasure to know and read.
What an awesome gift from Max. it is just the best.
Oh my goodness, where did she ever find all those pins. They are just wonderful - that should keep you going for a while.

  13. I love seeing little ones reading from an early age! ~smile~

Don’t worry about those mirrors . . . we all know they lie!

  14. On again/off again blogging is cool - no obligation to blog everyday! (even though you and I usually do!) Love those pins from Anne - she is a sweetie!

  15. Aww what a sweet gift from Max. And I look forward to seeing all those pinkeeps you’ll be making with those lovely pins.

Hope you work things out with the mirror. Walking can work really well for weight loss, and allows you to eat normally at the same time.

Glad to hear the Little Kiwi socks kept Arden’s feet warm today :-)

  16. Aw, your gift from Max warmed my heart - what a sweetheart he is. And the kids photos are always fun to see :D As for the body issues, well I won’t go there, I’ll just say that your Mum’s comments above say it all perfectly!! It’s the inner person that we all adore … we’re all critical of our outer selves, but as long as we’re healthy inside that’s all that matters! And you’re a total stunner!!! :D

  17. A fantastic gift from Max. He is a very talented young man.

Know what you mean about banning mirrors.

  18. Wee beasties! I see that the verra fine Jamie Fraser is wearing off on you! I definitely understand the waxing/waning blogging thing. I’m in the middle of blogging malaise myself. But what the heck. Nobody is going to die if I don’t post. And I am going to deliberately ignore all references to mirrors, etc. Dinna fash, Sasssenach!

Added by Barbara: LOL, Joy! Actually, I’ve called my kids wee beasties for years now - long before I ever heard of Jaimie. ;)

  19. A lot of blogs have been quieter recently, including my own. Think its that time of year when the sun comes out!
Such a lovely gift from Max, very thoughtful of him. Have a great weekend!

  20. Lovely photos of the kids - and what a kind gesture from Anne to send you all those pins - you’ll be set for ages now :)

  21. What a beautiful sampler for Arden! That must have taken quite some packing to get it to you safely (and too funny about your mailman!) Sara sounds like a very special person.

I have to comment on the gift Max made you for Mother’s Day too! It is so precious!! What a wee darling he is to make you something so special. <3

  22. I know how you feel about the physical self-I have been on my treadmill-hate it! But I am forcing myself to do it. I don’t like mirrors myself. I love Max’s mother’s day gift-too sweet.

  23. Rowen and her snails. What a hoot! Your wee beasties are so sweet. :) I don’t think that Max qualifies as a wee beasty anymore. I love his Mother’s Day gift to you. There’s nothing like an original cross stitch piece from a young cross stitcher; how inspiring! I’m so glad that Anne RAK’ed you with some lovely pins. I will share her secret, though. I think she got them off of eBay. ;)

  24. P.S. I know about your body image issues, but you really need to try to love yourself as you are. There’s nothing wrong with improving upon that, but you should be easier on yourself. That’s where I’m trying to get with my bit o’ belly.
