try something new each day
05.05.08
They say that it slows the aging process, particularly that slippery slope of mental decline, if you try something new every day. I can’t honestly say I come even close to that – most days are spent in a treadmill-type action of simply trying not to get too far behind the kids.
Today, though, I finally broke open the packet of Fimo Effects clay I’d bought a couple of weeks ago. My reason for buying it is because I’ve found it absolutely impossible to get decent-looking pins for pinkeeps here, and I’m not “allowed” to order any because I’ll apparently be on The Wagon till the trumpets sound…. So I tried making some decorative-headed pins and simple buttons. Simple … well, that’s open for debate. This stuff is sticky! And once it sticks to your hands, it then sticks to itself. And before you know it, you look like you’ve been squishing Smurfs barehanded. :0 But here is what I came up with:
The other new thing that I’m so happy to share is that after two years of great effort to win an Ink Circles pattern during Tracy’s ‘tell-me-an-interesting-story’ competition during The Needlework Show, I finally won! It was ridiculously difficult to chose just one. It probably doesn’t surprise anyone that I finally chose Dutch Beast because it appealed so much to my sense of humor and because as a foreigner living in The Netherlands it just seemed so perfectly tongue-in-cheek.
The other designer I tried so hard to win from was Monique … but there’s always next year!
It’s a gorgeously sunny day and the kids and I are soon off to walk to the petting zoo and then over to the library. I plan to get some more stitching done tonight – thanks for your kind words about Thine Forever. It’s a gorgeous design and I really hope it’ll make the bridal pair happy.

I think you’re very courageous (I hope I use the right word): trying the Fimo (with great result!) and wanting to stitch such a big project…
And with 4 young kids, I can’t admire your stitching speed enough!
Enjoy the weather!!

A bit of cornstarch on your hands with stop the sticky situation when handling that stuff. Congrats on your win!

Hey congratulations on winning the Ink Circles prize! Well done you
Gosh, even the thought of trying something new every day is nearly wearing me out. I’m going to have to go and have a cup of tea and think about it. Honestly, with kids to mind too, I think you do spectacularly well, as your needles and other Fimo bits are testament to!

Ahh yes, I remember well my first ventures into the Fimo clay world. Such great expectations, but my results never quite looked like anything in the books I read. So I just wing-it now and come up with some nice little food items for the doll house. Never tried pinheads before. I was thinking of making a floss holder (like the ones cut of wood with the drilled holes in them) in the shape of a cat or a frog. Lots of “mental planning” but not much doing yet! Love your little snail.
That “Dutch Beast” is amazing. Is this going to become your new nick-name?
Thanks for all the links in the previous post. It’s been so nice outside lately that I have neglected reading blogs for a couple of days.

Isn’t that Dutch Beast great? I was following the blog while the various motifs were added. It is quite the sampler : )
Luv your first try with fimo. I was tempted & then decided to skip it!!!
Enjoy the day!!!

Smurficide aside, I think your attempts look great!

I like all of your new creations with Fimo. I haven’t tried it, but did buy some Sculpey a while back that I want to try to play with. I need some star buttons, I think.
Do I see a snail for Rowen? You did a great job with it!
