Of course everyone is aware that the first two are both valid stitching topics – I’m working on Bushel & A Peck by La-D-Da and I want to be working on one of Tanya’s Jane Austen designs ever since joining her Yahoo! group. Since I’m unable to stitch two designs simultaneously, I took a short break from Bushel to take this quiz and find out once and for all which Austen character I am.

Which Jane Austen Character are You? (For Females) Long Quiz!!!
You scored as a Elizabeth Bennet
As one of Austen’s most beloved characters, Elizabeth Bennet represents what most women would like to become: strong, independent, and loyal. Of course, she has her faults including a stubborn will of iron and a clinging to first impressions. Overall, Lizzie is bright and lovable…something to admire and aspire to.

It is a long quiz, but it’s all in good fun. ;)

So, where am I now with Terra’s wedding sampler? I almost lugged the sewing machine downstairs to finish-finish yesterday’s Sleep Tight happy dance, but I decided to work more on this UFO instead. I love the idea of finally completing all the UFO’s I’ve hidden away. Anyway, I got a bit of a late start due to a general feeling of Sunday laziness. It’s funny – as a child, I really dreaded Sunday because it was so boring; as an adult, it’s my favorite day of the week. Here in the Netherlands, you have no choice but to stay home with your family because nothing’s open (unless you live in a big city like Amsterdam, or if it’s a special ’shopping Sunday’). As you may have noticed, I like nothing better than staying home with my family. Or going out and enjoying a nice walk or bike ride with the same chaotic crew if the weather is agreeable. ;)

Anyway, here is the current standing on Terra’s wedding gift – I only wish I’d had more time to stitch today!

BushelPeck WIP

For those who don’t know, Terra was one of two very special friends who helped Niek and I get our romance off the ground. ;) Terra was my trusty babysitter and fashion advisor. Niek still talks about the outfit I wore for our first date, and I owe that totally to Terra’s excellent advice. Left to my own devices, I may have made such a blunder that there’d have been no second date. LOL! Unfortunately (for me), after a few years in the Netherlands she decided to return to her native Canada … and we miss her still, though she’s been gone for over five years now!

It’s been awhile since I talked about books – mainly because I haven’t read much, and what I’ve read hasn’t impressed me. I recently finished Sepulchre by Kate Mosse (and those who’ve read it recognize the tie-in with the tarot cards mentioned in the title). I started this while in the hospital with Arden and I was quite pleased with the beginning. The parts of the novel that deal with the characters from the past is, IMHO, pretty compelling. I felt caught up with the characters and with their plight, even when it stretched credulity. Unfortunately, I found the modern characters unbelievable two-dimensional ’sketches’, as if Mosse had intended to better develop them and their story but ran out of time. The ending of the modern part of the story, with the evil uncle finally getting what he deserved was absolutely unbelievable. If one of the members from my old fiction class at Brandeis taught by Sue Miller had written that ending, you can rest assured that Ms Miller would’ve raised blisters with her criticism and comments. And rightly so. To those who enjoyed the novel, I apologize if I’ve offended. This is just my little opinion – that and a buck fifty will get you a decent cup of coffee someplace. ;)

After feeding Arden this afternoon, he got all snuggly on my lap so I decided to try to snap some one-handed photos of him. I think he looks like he’s smiling slightly in the first one. Nicky decided to creep in for a bit of the action in the second one. Is that an adorable face, or what? :D

And before I sign off for the day, I have to share that Ruth nominated me for You Make My Day! Ruth’s a fabulously talented crafter who originally hails from Australia but who’s bravely gone off to South Africa for a few years. She also has the cutest baby girl believable. :) I’m so happy to have met Ruth online – another reason to be ever-so-thankful for the Internet!

you make my day

I’m not going to nominate anyone because it’s just impossible for me to narrow the list of blogs that make my day down to a mere ten. I have about 150 feeds and I treasure each blog in there for the writer’s unique insights, humor, creativity, goodwill, wryness, and other talents. You guys and gals ALL make my day!

I just love how this piece is turning out, great work! The kids are so cute.

  2. Sue Says:

Cute pictures of the kids, and the prior ones with their grandparents were great too. For doing the ones here with one hand you did pretty good. Sleep Tight turned out very sweet, and your Bushel and Peck Sampler is looking wonderful, nice progress.

Thanks for making all our days all the time! :) You can be very proud of your UFO tackling program. Keep up the good work and maybe you’ll even inspire me to tackle a few. lol

  4. Sharon Says:

Terra’s sampler is coming along beautifully. The kids look adorable and Arden does look like he is smiling.

  5. Kendra Says:

Oh that first picture of Arden is precious! My girls made that same face when they were that age…I just love those newborn faces!

And the second picture…it looks like Arden is objecting to sharing the spotlight with Nicky…LOL!

  6. CathyB Says:

That’s how Sundays should be — at home, relaxing and enjoying the day with family. I wish I lived in a town where the shops were closed!

You don’t have too much further to go on A Bushel and a Peck….yay!

Arden’s just the cutest little baby – wish I could hug him! I’ll have to settle for blowing kisses instead!

  7. mary Says:

Bushel and a Peck is coming along nicely. That just sounds like the perfect way to spend Sunday. I agree with CathyB. It would be nice to have the stores closed for the day!

    Have a great week!

You definitely deserve the You Make My Day award, Barbara! In spite of all that’s going on in your busy life, you always update your blog with a sweet little bit of cheer. I really enjoy coming to read what’s going on in your world and see the pics of your great kids. Thank you :-D

This is really looking pretty, can’t wait to see more. Arden looks like a little snuggly bug, what a funny little content face.

  11. Nancy Says:

The wedding sampler is turning out gorgeous! I really love the color combination of this sampler.

We are both Elizabeth Bennett – how about that?

  12. Glenna Says:

Such a cute picture of Arden and Nicky! So warm and snuggly looking! I have Bushel and a Peck all kitted up, but I think my choice of fabric is not good–too green and dark. I like your fabric much better–it lights up the design. Mine would look like a dungeon, so I’m going to go in search of fabric like yours. When I was a kid, I hated Sundays, since nothing was open and Mom and Dad enforced “family day.” Boring! Now I crave that, but it’s hard to manage not to go out grocery shopping and on errands since everything here is open on Sunday, which sadly, makes it a day like any other unless you draw the line. One good thing: our library is open.

  13. KarenV Says:

Lovely progress on B&P :) Arden is definitely smiling in that first pic :)

  14. Lesley Says:

You’re making fantastic progress with Terra’s sampler – it’s beautiful! And a wonderful gift for her. I love the photo of Arden and Nicky – what mischief was running through Nicky’s mind? LOL

  15. Isabelle Says:

The wedding gift for your friend Terra is SO beautiful – she will love it! :)

Great pictures of Arden and Nicky – I love how Nicky looks both so proud and protective of his little brother. :)

  16. Michele Says:

you are stitching up a storm! Bushel and Peck is lovely :) I’m really enjoying all the family pictures you’ve been sharing with us :)

  17. Marita Says:

I love a Sunday at home with my family.

The wedding gift for your friend is looking lovely.

  18. Monique Says:

Nicky is So cute… how can you not just give him whatever he wants? LOL I bet with those eyes, he gets away with a few things he shouldn’t :)

  19. Joy Says:

Those are two adorable faces, if you ask me.
When I was growing up, the shops weren’t open on Sundays. DH still try to avoid shopping on that day ~ it seems like a retreat from all of that commerce, even for just a few hours, better prepares us for the busyness and stress of the work week ahead. Like you, I am definitely a homebody! And I am also Elizabeth Bennet! :~)
