my talented friends
06.05.07
Tuesday has been graced by gifts from two of my long-standing stitching pals, Annemarie and Su. We “met” via Cyberstitchers, drifted into the wonderful world of blogging, and are currently working on a neighborhood round robin together. Great friends, and exceptionally talented stitchers. So I’m honored to have finished projects by them gracing my humble home.
As usual, please click the pictures for more detail.
A little while back, Su showed a picture of a cute bird ornament on her blog and I thought, “oh – whoever gets that is a lucky duck!” Well, quack quack! Su also sent a lovely bird card that I didn’t photograph, but Max wants me to tell her that he likes that card a lot!
I do, too, Su!
Like everyone else out here, I’ve been admiring Annemarie’s floss fobs. They are so Annemarie! Unexpected, cheerful, practical, and lovely.
Well, Annemarie knows how much I love the fairies from Prairie Schooler (having subjected her to a great many oohs and aahs over a PS fairie MA she made for Harmien some time ago) and just look at this!! She also included some Gloriana silk, which I have just drooled over but never quite dared to buy, and some Caron, which I also just love to stitch with. You can see that she’s very well versed in my color preferences, too! And as if all this were not already too much, she also sent me the latest issue of de fil en aiguille, a simply fabulous French stitching magazine.
I’ve been expanding my display area of smalls, working them in among my family photos and I must say that I really like the effect. Over time, they’ll blend more naturally, but for now here are a few brave forerunners.
I plunged in and did a little bit of finishing after my birthday, too. The FAL (finish a long) weekends at Focus on Finishing are really very good motivators. By the end of the year, I may actually manage to clear out my stitched-but-unfinished projects. Then I can tackle my WIPs and UFOs! I finished a small design (Souvenier Motif) by The Sampler Girl (stitched for Niek for Valentine’s Day 2006!) as a small bag and I finished an old PS freebie as a magnetic pincushion for one of my aunts. The top side is a regular pincushion, but the underside has magnets (cleverly, IMHO!) concealed to make for quick cleanups of any pin spills.
Everything here at Chateau Chaos has been great. Nicky and Rowen have a spring cold, so that bizarre run of extreme good health has come to an end. I must admit, it was actually beginning to make me nervous to have everyone so healthy at once. As their noses and eyes stream, I find myself actually feeling a little better than I have in recent days (or weeks) – someone needs their Mummy, so my little break is over.
Here’s a picture of the little snot bunnies. Thankfully, Max remains healthy and is actively busy with collecting a limited series of marbles. (Do things like this actually run in the family?)
The weather has been unpredictable – hot and humid summer weather one day, and cool autumnish temps the next – which makes it a little hard to figure out what to do with our free time, but we’re not complaining. Really. LOL. I’ve been working on Dianne’s NRR, but my progress seems to be painfully slow. I have a freebie exchange coming up that’s trying to distract me, but I am trying to remain steadfast and get this out to Rachael before she leaves for her annual trek to California. Like everyone else, I’ve also spotted half a dozen projects in the most recent TGOSM that I want to make right now. If only sleep weren’t so darned important!
Thanks to those who’ve noticed my new layout. I really wanted something with a header that could be customized – that’s a real picture of the gorgeous Maine coast, taken by friend Liz Fowler a couple of years ago – but I don’t care for blue, so I don’t know if this layout will be around for very long. It is nice to see Maine every time I open my blog, though!

So funny- I can just see you breathing out at the first sign of illness. Lovely smalls – all of them, but you should never leave me alone with the thread fob from Annemarie.

I am so pleased that you loved your fob. I love what An made for you as well I love her floss fobs too.
If it wasn’t for you I would never have started blogging, as I never had the courage to start one so I owe you thanks!

Hey Barbara, I’m so glad you like your floss fob. I personally like Su’s fob very much, actually
)
I know what you mean when you say you wish sleep weren’t that important. Imagine what we could all get done if we could just stay up. There MUST be a way… (other than the caffeine drip I’m using, which doesn’t really work anyway)

Well I must say…you DO have talented friends

That Su…just makes a person want to stitch beautiful things and then Annemarie…well…she *really* outdid herself on that floss fob! WOW…I love the saying she meticulously stitched! And she must have stitched that all over 1, yes?! She must REALLY like you Barbara, because she doesn’t like stitching over 1!
Everything looks super
Hope your snot bunnies dry up soon!

What cute gifts! how nice! I am glad you are feeling better, and keep your nose to the grindstone, you’ll get your stitching done. Summer makes me extremely distracted, it’s hard for me to focus on anything right now

I like how you are incorporating your smalls on your wall! Ha it rhymes! Lovely gifts too! Where does everyone find the time?
I do like your layout-blue isn’t the ‘main’ color, at least. I like blue myself.
Hope the kiddos are feeling better. I had something-think it may have even been from having dental work last week as my gum bleed a lot (thinking bacteria infection).

Happy belated birthday sweetie!! I’m sorry I didn’t get to send you anything on the day, but I was thinking of you on the 1st, and had a vino in your honour
Lovely gifties you’ve been receiving … and I love the new blog look

I hope I remembered to wish you a happy birthday before I left… I know I thought about it, but did I actually do it? LOL Anyway- HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Your new blog layout is very nice… I like the picture of ME you have up top, and the blue background is pretty, too.
So much I’ve missed, and so much lovely stitching… I’ll just say it’s all beautiful and leave it at that

I thought I left a comment here – yesterday; however, it isn’t here!!
I did enjoy reading thru your blog & catching up.
The floss ring idea is most excellent. The one you have is awesome. The PS pattern looks great! I must see if I have those in my stash. Are there four of them? Like a series?
do you have the other freebie pattern? I don’t think I own that one. One of my friends made one for me & I was considering stitching it for a friend.
Your wall of photos & stitching is growing!!! Looks so interesting : )
Enjoy the day

Love your new header. The stitcheries you received are gorgeous, especially the bird one.
Hope the kids feel better soon.

I don’t see why you can change the theme to a brown one with that photo.
I’m glad you have some more nice gifties to report, as well as some finishes!

How can I only be out of town for a few days – yet so behind in all the news?
Your birthday sounded like a real treat – great get-away, lovely gifts, card & wishes. It’s a wonderful world!!
Love your new template Barbara – gorgeous picture and a wonderfully soothing background.
Keeping my fingers crossed for the Maine purchase.

Thank you so much for your faithful visits. You’re the 2nd visitor to suggest that I add a sort of guest book. The problem is that I don’t know yet how to manage one!!! I’ll try to find the answer. If you have an idea, you’ll be welcome. Happy week end to all your family.
